Wine Cork Christmas Tree

I LURVE wine corks. And wine. I recently received a gift of a wine cork stash and I've been coming up with ideas on what to do with them....something a little out of the ordinary, ya know? I've seen wreaths (heck, I just made a burlap wine cork wreath), trivets, picture frames, and bulletin boards. Last year I tried my hand at making a stacked cork christmas tree. I've never seen one like this though. Yeah, I think I was the first to come up with it!! (You know that's probably not true....but as far as I am concerned, I am totally the first.) :-)

Here is what I did:

A foam cone wrapped (and secured with hot glue) in linen.

Trim the corks in half and hot glue them around the wrapped cone, adding a wooden red ball in every now and then to accent it. Start at the bottom of the cone and work your way to the top, trying to alternate the placement of the corks: don't line them up in a row one on top of the other, place them at diagonals to each other.

I love rose hips too.
There color, in my mind, is so much for rich and less brassy as the winterberries you see everywhere.

  8. You are right.... This is a totally new use of wine corks, I do believe. Love it!!! I saw something at a craft show I want to try... She took those big pressed wood script letters that Hobby Lobby sells and hot glued the corks standing on end. It made a small personalized cork board. Can't wait to try it....along with a cork tree, of course. :-)

    Thanks for sharing!
