Duct Tape Halloween Wreath Craft

Marvelously Messy
"Duct tape is like the force. It has a light side, a dark side, and it holds the universe together."
~Oprah Winfrey
Thanks goodness for Duct tape. It's unbelievable what this incredible tape can do. You see above the most recent example of my Halloween decor....but duct tape is capable of so much more. As a Maine-ah, I am particularly aware of the benefits of this wonder tape. We don't go anywhere without it. I was at a craft show at the end of the summer and there was booth entirely devoted to duct tape made goods. None of us were surprised to see it there though all of us were probably thinking, "Ayuh, I made that one befor-ah".
Marvelously Messy
One of the more popular humorists of central Maine, Gary Crocker, has devoted a whole section of his website to Duct Tape Tips:
  http://www.garycrocker.com/duct-tape-tips.html

Here's a few quotes to whet your appetite:

~New Year's Day was very slippery and I had to go down to feed the chickens. I didn't want to fall so I wrapped Duct Tape around my boots with the sticky side out and then stomped in the cat litter. I went down and fed the chickens with no problem- worked like a dream. Wife's not too happy though. Cat's litter box is in the bathroom and I had to track through the bedroom to get outside. Guess she doesn't appreciate ingenuity!

~If you are on a diet and the rest of your family is not, put all of their snacks into the refrigerator and tape the doors shut with Duct Tape. Every time you want something, removing the tape will make so much noise that it will alert the rest of the family and you will not eat what you are trying not to.

You can actually buy plaid duct tape at LL Beans:
Maine Guide Duct Tape
Laugh all you want, but I'm eyeing this stuff for Christmas. :-)

If you want to make the wreath, it's really simple:
Black Duct Tape
Hot Glue
Black Electricians Tape
Dollar Store Raven
Foam Wreath
~Wrap that wreath all the way around with the duct tape.
~Make some sneaky little rosettes with the electricians tape and hot glue them onto the wreath (if you are going to place this outside, 'cause, hey, it's totally waterproof). If it is staying inside, you probably don't need to hot glue as long as you left some viable sticky surface of the electrical tape.
~Use the wonderfully little wires attached to the birds feet and push them through the tape and into the foam. Barring a hurricane, they're not going anywhere.

“Magnetism is one of the Six Fundamental Forces of the Universe, with the other five being Gravity, Duct Tape, Whining, Remote Control, and The Force That Pulls Dogs Toward The Groins Of Strangers.”
~Dave Barry

Costume Supercenter: Light-Up Fairy Costume Review

It is **definitely** that time of year. :-)
I was given a chance to review a costume for the Costume Supercenter!!!! This gave me the perfect excuse for not making my munchkins outfit this year, as my sewing skills are lacking in so many ways....it usually takes me quite a while to put the whole ensemble together. Last year I made a really fun ladybug costume, which just barely fit her when all was said and done. No, she did not grow unexpectedly in the week it took me to make it....I just don't really measure very well. Or, at all. :-)
She chose the adorable Light Up Fairy costume above out of the KAJILLION options on the site. Seriously, they have a lot of outfits. We had a great time looking through all the categories. It was pretty overwhelming for her to see all the options and make an actual decision. I would recommend perusing the site with your child *only* if they have a basic idea of what they want to wear in mind. Otherwise, you could be there a loooooooong time.
The costume arrived in great condition. It is good quality fabric, not something that tears easily. The colors and textures are great, the skirt is poofy and twirly....like any girl would want it to be. The LED lights on the skirt are not functioning very well currently, which is something that is Costume Supercenter is working with me to solve....it may just be that this particular skirt happened to have a flaw, either way I expect the issue to be resolved soon. As is stands, they offer a free exchange or return on any costume that arrives that is the wrong size, damaged, or something you would like to exchange for another product.
This fairy costume was just one of MANY. Look HERE to see the many other options. They offer adult costumes as well. Girls costumes, Boys, Teens, tots, and plenty of accessories.Plus sizes are in good quantity too!! All in all, the Costume Supercenter is totally stocked in anything you might need to get all dressed up for Halloween!!
